Not finding a compatible faceplate, I'll make one from a center latch 1541.
First, we need a hole for the latch shaft.
A comparison if the stock 1541 II face and it's replacement. The original won't fit in the tower's 5.25 bay, and it doesn't lend itself to being modded.

The faceplate has an indentation for fingers to grab the floppy.
Some of the mech base need to be removed to make room for the indentation, indicated by the pencil mark.
All taped up and ready for cutting. This will keep metal shavings from getting in sensitive places without having to take it all apart.
