First thing is to take the case apart.

image

And now the front.

image

On the front is a three speed switch for the fans.

image

It's a delicate switch, so I'll tape a
piece of foam from the DVD box over it.

image

The aluminum is soft and will scratch
easily. I'll tape every everything to protect it.

image

Now, I'll start planning how to put the FD 3.5 mech,
it's controller board, and the matching faceplate in
the 3.5 cage.

image

First thought is to put the controller PCB
between the FD 3.5 mech and the PC 3.5 mech.

image

The blank plate is just the right
size for the decal from the FD 2000.

image

Here, I'm marking where the row of
lights, and the momentary switch should go.

image

Disassemble the FD.

image

A test fit in the 3.5 cage. You can see
the pencil line where the lights should go.

image

But it's too close to the PC 3.5 mech.

image

So, I'll relocate it to the bottom of the three slots.
I made an insulator sheet from an old disk box.
It's real dense cardboard. I'm not worried about
it shorting out on the cage.
